Licio Grangeiro started playing tennis at age 13. His first coach Master Henrique guided his pupil with the help of a tennis book written in English. “I translated the book to my coach and we practiced together the theory we had learned. I remember one night during my vacation, I panicked when feeling a tachycardia. I thought I was going to die from so much practice.” |

This immense passion for tennis showed results in little time; in just a year and a half of practice, Licio earned a second place in the Juniors National Championship in Brazil, a result that gave him the opportunity to have his name on the book “Tennis – C. Modern” of Edmundo Giffoni, which mentions the best Brazilian players in the past generations. Licio quit playing tennis very early because of school. Tennis didn't mean much professionally at that time, unless the player had managed to stay among the top ten players in the world. Even so, Licio maintained his ranking as the second best player of the State of Rio de Janeiro from '62 to '65 and finished in fifth place in the Men's National Championship in 1965. Meanwhile Lício was summoned by the Brazilian Tennis Confederation to be part of the team that would represent Brazil in the Pan-American games. Holding a Master's degree in development planning, Lício worked in the Federal Government as an economic advisor for several finance ministers. However, Licio never turned off totally from tennis either as a player or as a coach. From the researches on foreign bibliography, the habit of writing and collecting little notes in a small red folder was born, which ended up becoming the embryo of his idea for the accomplishment of this book. In fact, the absence of a book with international status in the Brazilian bibliography was enough reason for him to give up his spare time and make every effort to put all his notes together and write this book, which was published on November 20th, 1996. |

After examining the quality and perspectives of the book, and thanks to her dynamic management skills, Maria Helena Alves Fleuri, president of MH Comunicação, decided to be part of this enterprise as the Author's partner. The capacity of the Press to seek good business was quickly proved in the total return of the investments, which occurred in less than one month after the work was released; thus, it is already available to the public for almost half the price it cost in the first months after the release. |
